The Kilns — exterior across a day, from aerial daylight through golden hour to lit dusk

The Kilns

Year:
2025
Location:
Coromandel, New Zealand
Type of project:
Beach House

Rising from the hillside above the water, The Kilns takes its shape from a cluster of tapered, shingled forms — a silhouette closer to kiln or beacon than conventional roofline. Dark timber cladding is left to weather in the salt air, its grain deepening season by season against the shifting colour of the coast. Inside, the plan opens directly to the shoreline: living spaces, bedrooms, and decks all face the water, glass sliding back until the line between house and horizon all but disappears.
